Follow Your Fashion Bliss
For years, I have yearned to follow my bliss. For brief moments I have felt the awe and wonder of what that might feel like. A day at the beach, watching the sun set into the ocean, the aroma of a fine wine bouquet, watching the curtain come up on a Broadway show, or just smelling the aroma of fresh chocolate chip cookies, have all been transitory moments of sheer bliss. But to have more than a fleeting second of this awareness has eluded me, until I realized that “fashion” always places me in a blissful trance.
From the minute I open a fashion magazine, walk into a high end boutique, shop for the latest trends, wait for the hottest designers to release their collections, watch a runway show, or shop for the greatest looks and styles, there is an overwhelming feeling of bliss that covers me from head to toe. It’s like no other feeling I have ever experienced. It can be as thrilling as seeing the Duchess of Windsor dressed for a polo match, watching the red-carpetdesigns on television, or just flipping through Vogue Magazine, fashion makes me feel alive, unique, calm, serene, confident, happy and yes “blissed out”.
What is it about fashion that makes me euphoric? Is it the mystery of the art of design? Or is it the innate need to feel the passion that it awakens in my life? Maybe it’s feeling the vibrant spills of colors over my imagination or the simple sensual touch of the fabrics? Perhaps it’s experiencing the insatiable appetite to feel renewed and alive when I see something new? Could it be the alluring enticement of what might happen to me when I wear this creation? Or is it just the sheer exuberance of falling in love over and over again! Fashion touches every sensual nerve I have.
But maybe, it’s as simple as remembering how my Mom and I spent hours together finding fabrics, cutting patterns and sewing beautiful fashions in the basement for the latest party, christening, birthday, formal, or school play.
What I know for sure is, what I wear defines me like the colorful brushstrokes of an artist defines her art. It’s how I see myself, the confidence I exude, the playfulness I feel, the feelings I share, the work I produce. Fashion helps me to remember the moments. It’s how I communicate my joie de vivre! It’s sharing my expressions for life! It’s walking into a room knowing that I have said something interesting without mumbling a word. My shopping is not an addiction it’s my sacred time to discover something amazing about who I am and who I want to become.
