Mindfulness has entered the main stream of health, thanks to the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, which he launched at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979. Since that time, thousands of studies have documented the physical and mental health benefits of mindfulness in general and MBSR in particular, inspiring countless programs to adapt the MBSR model for schools, prisons, hospitals, veterans centers, and beyond.

3. Recognize that your thoughts and emotions are fleeting and do not define you. This is an insight that can free you from negative thought patterns.
4. Tune into your body’s physical sensations, from the water hitting your skin in the shower, the taste of a cold glass of water, the feel of the steering wheel in your hands, to the way your head rests on your pillow at night.
